Kataeb: “No more delays” in Beirut Port Blast justice
The political bureau of the Kataeb Party, chaired by party leader MP Samy Gemayel, met to discuss the latest developments and issued a statement addressing several national issues.
Marking the sixth commemoration of the Beirut port explosion, the party said Lebanese citizens, particularly the families of those killed and wounded, continue to await the full truth and justice. It also paid tribute to Kataeb members killed in the blast, including Secretary-General Nazar Najarian, Joe Akiki, Joe Andoun, and Tony Baramki.
The party stressed that justice can tolerate no further delays and urged the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation to expedite the completion of his legal submission, paving the way for an indictment and the start of trials to hold all those responsible accountable, regardless of their positions.
The statement said this would help restore confidence in the judiciary and uphold the principle of accountability.
The Kataeb political bureau also welcomed the State Shura Council’s decision to suspend the implementation of a Finance Ministry circular seeking to transfer village common lands into state property. It described the ruling as an important step toward safeguarding the historic rights of villages and their residents, and reaffirmed its call to protect communal lands as part of the historical and legal rights of local communities.
On the ongoing negotiations in Rome, the party described them as another step toward strengthening the diplomatic track to end the war, while emphasizing that the Lebanese state alone should represent Lebanon in negotiations and defend its national rights.
It said maintaining this path requires the swift implementation of government decisions to place all weapons under state control, which it said would help consolidate the cessation of hostilities, secure an Israeli withdrawal and strengthen state authority and sovereignty across Lebanese territory.
The political bureau also highlighted the significance of the Mountain Reconciliation, saying it demonstrated that genuine political will can overcome the legacy of wars and contribute to rebuilding the country.
It recalled that the historic reconciliation was paved by a 2000 meeting between former President Amin Gemayel and Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt, following Gemayel’s return from forced exile, as well as the founding document that emerged from the meeting.
The party said the experience demonstrated that the courage to address past grievances openly and uphold national partnership are essential to consolidating stability, stressing that reconciliation remains a permanent national choice that protects Lebanon and strengthens its unity.
