President of the Republic Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reaffirmed Lebanon’s unwavering position ahead of the upcoming negotiations in Washington, stressing the need for a permanent ceasefire, the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese territory, the deployment of the Lebanese Army up to the internationally recognized borders, the return of Lebanese prisoners, and the launch of reconstruction efforts.
The two leaders made their remarks during a meeting at Baabda Palace, where they reviewed the latest domestic and regional developments following the announcement of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
They also assessed regional and international reactions to the agreement, as well as contacts conducted with Lebanon regarding the matter.
Discussions also focused on preparations for the next round of Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations scheduled to take place in Washington next week.
Aoun and Salam considered the U.S.-Iran understanding a positive step toward reducing tensions across the region, promoting peaceful solutions, and helping bring an end to ongoing conflicts.
They emphasized that Lebanon remains committed to its core demands and national priorities as negotiations move forward.
