An Israeli source told the newspaper Maariv that there is ambiguity regarding the continuation of operations in Lebanon, noting that the air force has halted attacks on Lebanon since yesterday.
The Hebrew-language newspaper also reported confusion and embarrassment within the Israeli security establishment, saying that as of Monday afternoon, the Israeli army and security apparatus did not know the direction of the fighting in Lebanon.
It added that after several hours of calm in the northern sector, the air force carried out a strike against a Hezbollah member who had approached Israeli forces in the al-Salouqi area.
A military source said the operation was aimed at removing a direct threat to the forces.
He added: “We continue our operations in the ‘yellow line’ area. We are conducting reconnaissance and raids in villages near the yellow line, but we do not know our direction. We are currently preparing plans for all scenarios: continuing and escalating the fighting, staying in our positions, or withdrawing forces.”
He continued: “We are waiting for orders from our superiors. We will continue our operations until we receive further instructions.”
Two Israeli divisions are currently deployed in Lebanon: Division 91 and Division 36.
