The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants stated that it sent a letter on 10/6/2026 to the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary-General, including a complaint based on a report prepared by the National Council for Scientific Research, regarding the Israeli army’s spraying of a substance (Glyphosate) over several southern Lebanese border villages on 1/2/2026. It noted that the Chemical Weapons Convention prohibits the use of herbicides as a method of warfare.
It added that laboratory tests and chemical analyses conducted on soil samples taken from Aita al-Shaab, Ras al-Naqoura, and Dhayra confirmed the use of glyphosate at high concentration levels reaching 22,750 micrograms per gram. This level is far higher than the concentrations typically recorded in agricultural soil after direct use by farmers, which usually range between 0.5 and 2 micrograms per gram at most.
The Ministry also said that on 11/6/2026 it sent another letter to the Security Council and the UN Secretary-General referring to ongoing Israeli attacks in Lebanon, including an incident on 6/6/2026 in which the Israeli army targeted a Lebanese army vehicle on the Kfar Tebnit–Khardali road, resulting in the death of two officers (a brigadier general and a captain) and a soldier while performing their national duty in southern Lebanon. The Ministry called on the UN to condemn the attack, take immediate measures to stop these repeated violations, and ensure compliance with the UN Charter and relevant international resolutions, including Resolution 1701 (2006).
The Ministry further stated that while negotiations are taking place between Lebanon and Israel in Washington under US sponsorship, with confidence-building measures being discussed to consolidate a ceasefire and create conditions for a lasting peaceful solution that ensures security and stability in the region, and Israel’s withdrawal to internationally recognized borders, the targeting of Lebanese army personnel directly undermines these diplomatic efforts and threatens attempts to strengthen state authority and extend Lebanon’s sovereignty over its entire territory through its own forces exclusively.
