Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met MP Najat Aoun Saliba, former minister and dean of the Jesuit University’s law faculty Marie-Claude Najm, Social and Economic Development Institute executive director Rashad Rafeh and Choukri Haddad at the Grand Serail.
Following the meeting, Aoun Saliba said the delegation urged the government to open the door for cement imports, arguing that Lebanon should not rely solely on the destruction of mountains and what she described as the monopoly of three cement companies amid continuously rising prices.
She noted that recent reports issued by the Beirut and Tripoli Orders of Engineers had warned about the sharp increase in cement prices.
According to Aoun Saliba, Salam responded positively and said he would discuss the matter with the concerned ministers, particularly Deputy Prime Minister Tarek Mitri, who is following the dossiers.
