The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Israeli ambassador in Russia following an attack on journalists from a Russian channel in southern Lebanon.
Russia described the attack as a serious violation of international law after reporter Steve Sweeney and cameraman Ali Rida were injured in the incident.
The channel reported that Sweeney and his cameraman, Ali Reza Spiti, were hurt in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon and are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
In a statement regarding the incident, the Russian Foreign Ministry said: “We consider such actions by the Israeli side and its military forces a blatant violation of international law, a deliberate obstruction of the work of media personnel, and an assault on their health and lives.”
Speaking to reporters, cameraman Reza said that an Israeli aircraft deliberately targeted them near the Qasmiyeh Bridge while they were wearing vests marked “Press.”
Both are conscious and are receiving medical care in hospital. They reported that “shrapnel from the shell caused minor injuries to their limbs.”
