Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi participated in an emergency ministerial meeting in Riyadh, convened by Saudi Arabia with Arab and Islamic counterparts to address regional security.
In Lebanon’s address, Raggi condemned what he described as Iranian attacks on Gulf states, Jordan, Iraq, Turkey and Azerbaijan, warning that such actions threaten regional stability and violate international law. He cited recent UN and Arab League resolutions denouncing these attacks and affirming collective security.
Raggi stressed that Lebanon is working to restore full state sovereignty, highlighting government decisions to restrict arms to state institutions, ban Hezbollah’s military activities and enforce security measures on the ground.
Moreover, the Foreign Minister said that Hezbollah’s actions had dragged Lebanon into a war it did not choose, exacerbating a severe humanitarian crisis marked by casualties and mass displacement.
Raggi called for the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, an immediate cessation of hostilities and Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory.
Raggi finally reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to diplomacy, backing a presidential initiative for direct negotiations aimed at securing lasting stability, and urged stronger international and Arab support for the Lebanese Armed Forces to uphold security and sovereignty.
