The following statement was issued by the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division:
Further to our previous notice regarding individuals committing fraud via social media, exploiting the circumstances of displaced citizens by posting fake advertisements for apartment rentals, and as part of the Internal Security Forces’ ongoing efforts to identify those involved in these operations:
As a result of intensive investigations, the Cybercrime and Intellectual Property Protection Bureau within the Judicial Police Unit was able to identify one of the main suspects, J.A. (born 1990, Lebanese). On March 16, 2026, after careful surveillance and monitoring, information about his whereabouts became available, and a patrol from the bureau arrested him.
During questioning, he admitted to the charges, including creating fake accounts on social media platforms and posting false rental advertisements to lure victims into sending advance payments (deposits) via money transfer companies, after which he would cut off communication once the funds were received.
Legal procedures were carried out against him, and he was handed over to the competent authorities. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend all individuals involved in these fraudulent networks.
