Karami briefs Aoun on school year

  • Wed October 14 2026 1:34 pm

Education and Higher Education Minister Dr. Rima Karami briefed President Joseph Aoun on the start of the academic year, measures to address operational challenges and ongoing efforts to reform and modernize the ministry.

Speaking after the meeting, Karami said she had updated Aoun on the ministry’s digitalization initiatives and their expected impact on administrative efficiency and student services, following his visit to the ministry’s pavilion at Experia Expo.

Discussions also addressed the Lebanese University, particularly the long-standing issue of granting full-time status to faculty members and the need to expedite elections for a new Council of Deans.

Karami said Aoun had expressed support for these measures, adding that efforts were underway to place the faculty employment issue on the agenda of the first Cabinet session attended by the president.

Regarding the consolidation of public schools, Karami outlined the ministry’s approach, including cooperation with municipalities and local communities to cover school rental costs where necessary, allowing authorities to accommodate parents’ preferences while maintaining established standards.

She said Aoun supported establishing consolidated school campuses to avoid maintaining classes with extremely small numbers of pupils.

Karami emphasized that the ministry was seeking to balance compliance with applicable legislation and educational standards with the specific needs and priorities of local communities.
