Mahfoud: Lebanon must either reclaim its decision-making power or remain trapped in a cycle of collapse
Change Movement Party leader Elie Mahfoud wrote on X: Anyone who expects an armed organization operating outside the authority of the state to voluntarily give up its weapons and influence is living under a political illusion. Those accustomed to imposing their will through force do not change course on their own.
The issue is no longer a passing political dispute, but a struggle between the logic of the state and the logic of weapons. Ending this abnormal situation is not something that can be postponed; it is a condition for Lebanon to remain a state.
Anyone who believes the economy can come before stability is mistaken. There can be no investment, growth, confidence or genuine recovery as long as there is a military and political project operating outside the state, threatening its decision-making and exposing the country to new adventures.
Either the state fully reclaims its decision-making authority, or Lebanon will remain trapped in the same cycle of collapse.
