UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) had observed heightened military activity over the weekend, including Israeli airstrikes, helicopter attacks, indirect fire and naval operations in Lebanese territorial waters. He said the developments reflected rising tensions along the Blue Line.
Dujarric added that UNIFIL peacekeepers had located and neutralized several unexploded ordnance items in the area. However, they also faced restrictions on their freedom of movement, as well as incidents of aggressive behavior, hampering their ability to carry out their duties effectively amid continued violations and breaches threatening the fragile stability in southern Lebanon.
