Berri: Israel Shows No Regard for Agreements or Peace Efforts

  • Sat August 15 2026 2:55 pm

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri on Saturday condemned Israeli airstrikes on the southern Lebanese towns of Ansar and Deir al-Zahrani, describing them as “two massacres” that killed an entire family, most of them women and children.

Berri said the strikes were part of Israel’s ongoing “war of extermination” in southern Lebanon, accusing Israel of targeting civilians, property, heritage and all aspects of life in the region.

He said the attacks demonstrated that Israel’s political and military leadership “attaches no importance to agreements, laws or efforts aimed at ending the war and tensions in Lebanon and the wider region.”

In a statement, Berri said the Israeli strikes on Ansar, Deir al-Zahrani, Mansouri and other villages in the Nabatieh district should serve as a call for all Lebanese, particularly political forces across the country, to address the Israeli aggression and its consequences through a unified national approach, free from sectarian, regional or partisan divisions.

He called for greater national unity and urged the sponsors of the negotiations and ceasefire agreements to take responsibility and act to stop what he described as an “ongoing war of extermination” before it was too late.

Berri offered his condolences to the families of those killed and wished the wounded a speedy recovery.
