Bou Assi calls for Israeli withdrawal and Hezbollah disarmament
Lebanese Forces MP Pierre Bou Assi said both Israel and Hezbollah have failed to cooperate with the Lebanese state, stressing the need for the U.S. mediator to play a stronger role and for the Lebanese Army to deploy across the south as soon as possible.
He reiterated that the main priority is a complete Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory and an end to the conflict, followed by the withdrawal of weapons north of the Litani and eventually across all of Lebanon.
Bou Assi said Hezbollah can no longer challenge the state as it did in the past and is now limited to threats and accusations. He also stressed that continued Israeli escalation is undermining negotiations.
On domestic issues, he defended the army and said the proposed general amnesty would not cover those who attacked military personnel. He also criticized the disorder and management of parliamentary sessions.
Regarding President Joseph Aoun, Bou Assi described their relationship as excellent and praised the president’s role, while saying that including Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi in negotiations would be an added value.
