A heated argument erupted into shouting inside Parliament after dozens of MPs demanded a roll-call vote on the bill placing Ministry of Information contract employees under the pension scheme. However, Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri announced that the item had been approved and moved on to the next agenda item.
MP Nadim Gemayel told Berri: “Had you been certain it would not fail, you would have called for a roll-call vote.” Meanwhile, MPs including Michel Moawad, Firas Hamdan, and Elias Hankach called for the roll-call vote to be held again.
The argument grew heated, with Berri telling MP Firas Hamdan to “keep quiet.” MP Qabalan Qabalan fired back at the protesting lawmakers, saying: “If this is about shouting, we can shout too.” Elias Hankach responded: “This is not about shouting, it’s about logic. Lower your voice, I’m not addressing you.” The exchange continued inside Parliament.
