Information Minister Paul Morcos held a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2026) in New York after delivering Lebanon’s address.
Morcos met Norwegian Minister for International Development Åsmund Aukrust, senior UN officials, and several Arab ministers to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the media sector. He highlighted the devastating impact of the Israeli war on Lebanon, reaffirming the government’s efforts under President Joseph Aoun to secure a full Israeli withdrawal, facilitate the return of displaced residents, recover detainees, and advance reconstruction.
During talks with the Norwegian delegation, Morcos stressed that combating hate speech and disinformation is a key priority for the ministry, emphasizing cooperation with Norway on capacity building and promoting responsible media while safeguarding freedom of expression.
The visit concluded with a reception hosted by Lebanon’s Consulate General in New York for the Lebanese community. Morcos also visited Lebanon’s embassy in Washington and met members of the Lebanese diaspora there.
