MP Georges Adwan requested the floor at the start of the legislative session and asked Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to postpone discussion of the bill replacing the death penalty until another legislative session one month from now.
In his remarks in Parliament, Adwan said: “Some are trying to link the bill replacing the death penalty to the general amnesty law in order to obstruct the latter.”
He added: “We reaffirm once again, as the Lebanese Forces, our firm support for the general amnesty law, and we back any proposal that facilitates its approval in order to close this file, which concerns a segment of Lebanese people who have suffered political injustice and whose rights must now be restored.”
