Minister of Information Paul Morcos received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Lebanon, Fahad bin Abdulrahman Al-Dosari, who came on a protocol visit upon assuming his diplomatic duties.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the general situation in the region and Lebanon, as well as bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance media cooperation.
After the meeting, Minister Morcos said, We were honored today to receive the Ambassador of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following the presentation of his credentials to His Excellency the President of the Republic. The Ambassador paid a visit to the Ministry of Information, which provided an opportunity to discuss bilateral relations and ways to further strengthen them, in addition to current general developments.
Morcos added: We focused in particular on media cooperation between Lebanon and the Saudi Kingdom, and on ways to support the Lebanese media. We also briefed him on the ongoing development of Lebanon’s media sector, which is distinguished by its freedom of opinion and expression, as well as the anticipated adoption of the new media law, God willing. We also updated him on the progress of the country’s public media institutions, including Télé Liban, which has been revived following the appointment of a new board of directors after a 26-year wait; the National News Agency which has been re-launched in its new format; and the ongoing efforts to advance the work of Radio Lebanon. The meeting also provided an opportunity to explore ways of exchanging expertise and enhancing cooperation between media institutions of the two countries.
Responding to a question, Minister Morcos stressed that the Kingdom plays a fundamental role in facilitating the return of stability to the region, noting Saudi Arabia’s ‘’unwavering support for Lebanon and its continued standing by its side.
He added, We agreed with His Excellency the Ambassador to hold several follow-up meetings and to open multiple channels of cooperation between our two countries, particularly in support of the Lebanese media.
