Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny inaugurated the rehabilitated entrance to Kahaleh on the Damascus International Highway following completion of a widening and rehabilitation project carried out by the ministry in cooperation with the municipality.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rasamny said the project reflects the ministry’s commitment to addressing long-neglected infrastructure needs across Lebanon through equitable development.
Rasamny further stressed that road maintenance and traffic safety projects help restore public confidence, while calling for greater decentralization and enhanced financial and administrative powers for municipalities.
Kahaleh Mayor, Abboud Bijani, thanked the ministry for its support, describing the project as a successful model of cooperation and urging continued progress on additional development projects, particularly the town’s long-awaited main road.
The project included rebuilding a deteriorated retaining wall dating back to the 1960s with a new structure extending more than 100 meters, constructing sidewalks, flower beds, repaving the road, and using hand-cut natural stone to preserve the town’s heritage character. The municipality also carried out landscaping and surrounding infrastructure improvements. At the conclusion of the ceremony, Bijani presented Rasamny with a commemorative shield in recognition of his support and efforts.
