Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Youssef Raggi received a phone call from Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, during which they discussed regional developments and the general situation.
The Austrian minister reaffirmed her country’s support for Lebanon’s decision to move toward negotiations, expressing Vienna’s readiness to provide all necessary support for the success of this process. The Austrian Minister also conveyed Austria’s willingness to contribute to the success of any future arrangement the Lebanese government may propose as an alternative to UNIFIL.
Minister Raggi, for his part, stressed that Lebanon expects the negotiations set to begin early next week to achieve three main objectives: consolidating the ceasefire, securing Israel’s withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories, and enabling the Lebanese state to fully extend its sovereignty over all its territory.
Raggi also called on Austria to exert effective pressure on Israel to stop its attacks on Lebanon, and thanked Austria for its support for displaced people and for the humanitarian assistance it has provided.
