Prime Minister Nawaf Salam met in Paris with Dr. Khaled el-Enany, the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), whereby Premier Salam expressed his deep appreciation for the ongoing support UNESCO is providing to Lebanon during this critical phase.
PM Salam also praised the revival of the emergency plan for Lebanon, particularly the special account designated for Lebanon, which serves as a key tool for mobilizing resources and coordinating international response to address current challenges, especially in the education sector. Salam also commended the efforts made to ensure the continuity of education despite the exceptional circumstances, through the establishment of temporary educational spaces and alternative learning centers, securing essential educational materials and supplies, as well as supporting remote learning and training teachers and volunteers on emergency education mechanisms.
In parallel, Salam praised the ongoing efforts to protect Lebanon's cultural heritage and preserve archaeological sites, expressing his appreciation for the call to hold an exceptional session which resulted in the inclusion of 39 additional sites on the enhanced protection list, alongside 34 previously listed sites, which marks a significant step in safeguarding Lebanon's cultural heritage.
The PM also commended UNESCO's role in supporting press freedom and enhancing the safety of journalists.
