During Palm Sunday, Patriarch Rahi reflected on the importance of peace and reconciliation for Lebanon’s future. He pointed out that children carrying olive branches symbolize the peace in their hearts, and the blessing of these branches represents the peace to come, with the hope of spreading it in our homes and country.
He also marked the passage of fifty years since the outbreak of Lebanon’s civil war, emphasizing that turning the page is not enough. Understanding the mistakes and learning the lessons is essential to avoid repeating them, he stated.
Patriarch Rahi stressed that Lebanon needs a future that befits its history. We must re-examine what happened, reconcile, and openly confront each other so that we can completely overcome this phase, he said, highlighting that this process, known as cleansing the memory, has been successfully achieved by other countries as well.
Patriarch Rahi concluded by calling for open hearted prayers to welcome Christ, in order to enter with Him into His Suffering, Death, and Resurrection week.
