Minister Calls for Military Pay Raise: Support the Army so It Can Support You
In the context of discussing how to assess the damages caused by the support and construction war, which is estimated to be beyond the state's financial capacity, a proposal was raised in the Cabinet, according to sources, to assign the task to the military. However, Minister of Defense Michel Menassa rejected the idea and called for its removal, noting that damage assessment is not part of the military’s responsibilities according to the National Defense Law.
Additionally, Minister of Finance Yassine Jaber did not agree to adjust military pay to match those of administrative employees, citing the large size of the army and the current financial incapacity of the state.
However, the surprise came when the Cabinet assigned the task of damage assessment to a major company with a substantial budget. Some ministers expressed their surprise, questioning why the military wasn’t allocated funds for this task, while a company was.
