  • Thu April 17 2025 3:31 pm

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri received First Deputy Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mustafa Khasawneh, at the second presidential headquarters in Ain el Tineh.

The meeting was attended by Jordanian Ambassador to Lebanon Walid Al-Hadid and Speaker Berri's media advisor Ali Hamdan.

The discussions reportedly touched on developments in Lebanon and the region in light of Israel's continued aggression against the Gaza Strip, its attacks on Lebanon, and its violation of the ceasefire and UN Resolution 1701. The meeting also addressed bilateral relations and  cooperation between the two countries' parliaments.

Following the meeting, Khasawneh said: “We met this morning with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, and we exchanged talks on many topics. We conveyed the greetings of His Majesty Abdullah II bin Al Hussein to the Speakert and members of the Lebanese Parliament, and the greetings of the Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament and members of the Parliament. We exchanged talks on many issues of interest to the two brotherly countries, and we affirmed that Jordan always stands and will stand forever with Lebanon.”

Speaker Berri also received in Ain el Tineh, Lebanon’s Minister of Youth and Sports Nora Bayrakdarian, with whom he discussed the general situation and the latest developments, in addition to  issues related to youth sectors, federations, and sports facilities.

In a statement released by the Sports Ministry about Minister Bayrakdarian's visit, it noted that she presented her initiative to unify the sports community and establish a consensus Olympic committee, a move that was commended by Speaker Berri. She also outlined the projects the ministry intends to undertake locally, regionally, and internationally, and listened to his directives on various fronts.

Berri also received Beirut Governor Marwan Abboud, with discussions touching on the prevailing situation in the capital Beirut.

On the other hand, Speaker Berri invited the Parliament’s Bureau to convene at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 22.

On the occasion of Good Friday and the advent of Easter, Speaker Berri extended his congratulations to the Lebanese, in general, and Christians, in particular, hoping that “these occasions, with their sublime spiritual, missionary and humanitarian values, will constitute a moment for everyone to firmly believe that truth never dies.. that the lights of justice are stronger than the darkness of oppression.. and that the promise of resurrection is the victory of life over death, love over hatred, and unity over division.”
