Prime Minister Nawaf Salam reaffirmed the government's commitment to implementing its reform program and passing key financial legislation enabling Lebanon to reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During a meeting at the Grand Serail with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) led by Vice President Matteo Patrone, Salam stressed that “reforms are essential for Lebanon and its people to set the state on the path to development.”
The EBRD delegation expressed readiness to support Lebanon once the required reforms are enacted and the agreement with the IMF is finalized.
Salam also welcomed UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert. Talks focused on the political situation and the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement.
In a separate meeting, Prime Minister Salam discussed bilateral ties and regional developments with Norwegian Ambassador Hilde Haraldstad.
Salam then met with a delegation from the Lebanese-Iraqi Business Council, headed by Hassan Jaber, who presented a memorandum outlining ways to strengthen bilateral ties. Proposals included activating the 2002 Free Trade Agreement, reestablishing the joint ministerial committee, promoting reciprocal treatment, and creating a joint office to facilitate trade and investment.
Lastly, Salam received a northern Lebanese delegation led by Kamil Nadim Mourad. Discussions focused on regional demands and the new reform package, with the delegation offering full support to the prime minister's efforts.
