President Aoun makes surprise inspection visits to Traffic and Vehicles Management Authority, Beirut Port
President of the Republic Joseph Aoun accompanied by Interior Minister Brigadier General Ahmed Hajjar paid a surprise early-morning visit to the Directorate of Motor Vehicles (Nafaa) in Dekwaneh, as part of his follow-up on the work of public administrations and citizens’ complaints. He closely examined the workflow at the facility and listened to the needs of applicants who were surprised by his early arrival as they waited to process their documents.
President Aoun addressed the crowd gathered at the entrance, saying: “My visit today, alongside the Minister of Interior, aims to understand your problems and assess your needs. I want to tell you that I am aware of the difficulties you are facing. I also want to emphasize that anyone who covers up corruption is complicit in it. You must be our eyes—if you notice anything wrong, you must report it to me and to the Interior Minister.”
The President then headed to the office of the acting head of the directorate, Brigadier General Nazih Kobrosly, where he held a meeting in the presence of Minister Hajjar and was briefed on the situation. The president urged him to “double efforts to address citizens’ demands, expedite their transactions, and improve the current conditions within the directorate.”
Following that, President Aoun met with the officers working at the facility, stressing that their mission at Nafaa is to serve citizens, lift any injustice they face, prevent bribery, facilitate procedures, and monitor any violations committed against applicants.
The President and Minister Hajjar then toured the offices, observing operations and listening to feedback from citizens processing their paperwork. They also visited the area where driving license exams are conducted. President Aoun gave instructions for strict compliance with the applicable traffic laws to ensure public safety.
From Dekwaneh, President Aoun proceeded to the Port of Beirut, where he was received by Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamny. Both men toured several offices, including that of the Head of Port Security, Brigadier General Albert Chbeir, who briefed the president on the security forces’ supervision of port operations, affirming that they are proceeding normally.
President Aoun then held an extended meeting with a number of officers and provided them with necessary directives.
After touring the docks and the container terminal, President Aoun moved on to the customs building, where he was received by the Acting Director General of Customs, Raymond Khoury, who outlined the work of the customs enforcement unit at the port.
President Aoun stressed the importance of proper customs oversight on imported goods and the fair collection of duties in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. He warned against any leniency toward violators.
Finally, President Aoun met with a group of citizens following up on their transactions. He urged them to report any illegal practices they may encounter so that the perpetrators can be held accountable, emphasizing: “There will be no tolerance going forward for any violations, regardless of who commits them.”
