Leader of the Lebanese Forces Party Samir Geagea received the US Special Envoy for Lebanon, Morgan Ortagus, at his residence in Maarab. She was accompanied by US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Natasha Franciski and US Ambassador to Beirut Lisa Johnson, with the presence of MP Sethrida Geagea and Executive Committee Member of the party Joseph Jbeili.
During the meeting, a comprehensive discussion took place regarding Lebanese and regional developments, focusing on the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the arrangements linked to it. This included the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, particularly the extension of Lebanese state authority with its legitimate forces over all Lebanese territories, the disarmament of Lebanese and non-Lebanese militias, controlling the border with Syria, full control over air and sea crossings, and the completion of the Israeli withdrawal from the remaining areas in southern Lebanon.
The discussion also covered reconstruction projects and revitalizing the Lebanese economy, in line with the implementation of the agreement. Geagea emphasized that the key to any true economic recovery begins with the full sovereignty of the state and the exclusivity of weapons in the hands of the Lebanese legitimacy.
Geagea confirmed that the issue of disarming illegal weapons is a fundamental Lebanese demand, as it is the only path to establishing an effective state in Lebanon. Without an effective state, Lebanon will remain in the same state it has been for the past twenty years.
