Minister of Interior Bassam Mawlawi visited Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Bechara Boutros Rahi, at the Patriarchal residence in Bkerke, where they discussed national matters, including the upcoming presidential election.
Mawlawi expressed hope for a new president by January 9, one who will unite the Lebanese people, end divisions, and guide Lebanon to recovery. He stressed that Lebanese politicians must align with the aspirations of the people, particularly in the economic sector.
Addressing security concerns, Mawlawi assured that authorities were actively pursuing suspects in the Ashrafieh crime, and emphasized the Interior Ministry’s commitment to law enforcement, including efforts to address passport fraud cases.
Mawlawi also reaffirmed that the Lebanese security forces were working collaboratively to address illegal Syrian immigration and implement judicial orders.
Finally, Mawlawi offered his holiday greetings to all Lebanese security agencies, acknowledging their efforts during challenging times.
