Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea met in Maarab with a delegation from the National Bloc party, led by Secretary General Michel Helou. Discussions focused on the need to assert state sovereignty across all Lebanese territory, establish a timeline for the disarmament of Hezbollah and all militias, and advance economic reforms including banking sector restructuring, forensic auditing, and lifting banking secrecy laws. Helou emphasized the importance of building a cohesive society and engaging in municipal elections to restore governance and development nationwide.
In a separate meeting, Geagea received MP Waddah Sadek, head of the Khat Ahmar party, accompanied by party officials and former Deputy Prime Minister MP Ghassan Hasbani.
Talks centered on ways to address longstanding dysfunction in Beirut’s municipal council.
Sadek proposed forming a cross-party committee to develop practical governance reforms ahead of the upcoming municipal elections, stressing that the priority must be “Beirut’s interest above all political, sectarian, or partisan considerations.”
