Lebanese Forces MP Ghassan Hasbani accused Hezbollah of attempting to prevent the Dahr El-Baidar explosives case from being referred to the Judicial Council, arguing that such a move would establish a precedent with significant legal and political implications.
Speaking to Sawt Kel Lebnen radio, Hasbani said the incident provided the government with an opportunity to implement its decisions concerning Hezbollah’s weapons, which he said had been declared illegal under a series of Cabinet resolutions.
He stressed that the Lebanese Forces remained committed to government decisions, warning that failure to implement them would undermine the government’s credibility and foundations.
Hasbani said Lebanese Forces ministers had no intention of resigning at present, although he did not rule out any options should the government lose the foundations of public trust.
Regarding the upcoming Israeli elections, Hasbani said he did not expect their outcome to significantly alter regional dynamics, citing the ongoing US-Iranian confrontation and Israel’s conflicts with Iran and Hezbollah.
Asked whether the Lebanese Forces would contest the parliamentary by-election in the Bekaa, Hasbani affirmed the party’s readiness to participate in any democratic contest, adding that potential candidates would be determined once the electoral process begins.
