President Joseph Aoun chaired a security meeting at Baabda Palace and stressed the need to strictly enforce the laws, prevent armed displays, confiscate weapons and ammunition, expedite investigations, and refer violators to the competent judicial authorities for the necessary action.
He emphasized that the current phase requires close monitoring of the situation and the adoption of necessary preventive measures, as well as preventing any attempt to exploit economic issues to undermine security.
No leniency is acceptable toward any attempt to undermine security or jeopardize the country’s stability, Aoun added. The current phase requires the highest level of readiness and coordination among the security and military agencies, continuous information-sharing, and a thorough assessment of developments, without any overlap in roles or conflict of authority.
He called for strengthening the presence of the Internal Security Forces, General Security, and State Security in southern villages and towns not under Israeli occupation, to reassure residents and facilitate administrative services for them.
Aoun also commended the work of the army and security forces, praising their readiness, swift response, and effectiveness in uncovering crimes, identifying and pursuing those responsible, and apprehending them.
