Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea warned that Lebanon’s electricity crisis requires immediate government decisions, saying further delays would deepen power shortages, increase generator bills and burden households and businesses.
Speaking during a meeting with the party’s legal professions department in Maarab, Geagea commented on Energy Minister Joe Saddi’s decision to boycott Cabinet sessions pending action on the sector’s financial problems.
He said existing power plants meet only about one-third of national demand, blaming decades of underinvestment and spending on fuel rather than sustainable generation capacity.
Geagea backed Saddi’s reform agenda, including activating the electricity regulator, improving collection, reducing losses and attracting private investment.
He also defended a flexible electricity tariff linked to fuel prices, arguing that increased public power supply could significantly reduce consumers’ combined electricity and private generator expenses.
Geagea urged the government to move from diagnosing the crisis to implementing solutions.
