Customs warns of health risks from smuggled medicines, botox, and fillers

  • Fri October 2 2026 4:31 pm

General Customs Director Gracia Qazzi said recent operations by the Anti-Smuggling Division had led to the seizure of large quantities of smuggled medicines and aesthetic medical products, particularly Botox and fillers, found in residential apartments and premises used by commercial companies.

In a statement, Qazzi said Customs had made combating the smuggling of products directly affecting public health a top priority, including medicines, dietary supplements, injections, medical and cosmetic products and foodstuffs, alongside broader efforts to protect the legitimate economy, compliant traders and state revenues.

She said recent surveillance, tracking and raids showed that some smugglers were using residential apartments and other unconventional locations to conceal illicit goods and avoid detection.

Qazzi urged citizens to report suspicious storage or distribution activity, noting that a single tip could help uncover an entire warehouse or smuggling network.

She also called on consumers to verify the source and official registration or authorization of medicines, injections, supplements and cosmetic products, warning that improper transport or storage could pose serious health risks.

Customs, she added, would continue tracing the origin, entry routes, storage and distribution networks of seized goods to identify all those involved.
