President Joseph Aoun and French President Emmanuel Macron met at the Élysée Palace ahead of the opening of a preparatory meeting for the conference to support the Lebanese Army and security forces under the Aqaba Initiative. They discussed efforts to end Israeli attacks in light of the Lebanese-U.S.-Israeli negotiations and the “framework agreement.”
President Aoun thanked his French counterpart for France’s support for Lebanon, his personal attention to the country’s situation, and his commitment to strengthening the authority and sovereignty of the Lebanese state and supporting its official, security and military institutions.
The president also welcomed the initiative launched by Macron and the Italian prime minister for the period following the end of UNIFIL’s mandate.
The two sides agreed to maintain communication and strengthen cooperation across various fields, particularly the economy and energy, including the resumption of oil and gas exploration in Lebanon’s offshore blocks.
