MTV Exclusive: Prosecutor’s Submission Details Who Can Be Prosecuted
MTV has learned that Judge Mohammed Saab concluded in his legal assessment that investigating Judge Tarek Bitar does not have the authority to prosecute judges and that the charges brought against them are unlawful.
According to the information, the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation’s legal assessment found that the prosecution of former Prime Minister Hassan Diab and former ministers Youssef Fenianos, Ghazi Zeaiter and Ali Hassan Khalil falls under the jurisdiction of the Judicial Council. It also determined that the powers of the Interior Ministry differ entirely from those of other ministries subject to prosecution, such as the Public Works and Finance ministries.
