Aoun Visits Former President Sleiman, Vows No Alignment With Regional Camps
MTV's website has learned that President Joseph Aoun visited former President Michel Sleiman at his home on Friday, ahead of Aoun’s official visit to Washington.
Commenting on the meeting, Sleiman said the visit came before Aoun’s trip to the United States for an official meeting with President Donald Trump, describing Aoun as carrying the concerns, suffering and sovereign demands of the Lebanese people. He added that the two discussed the key issues facing Lebanon.
According to Sleiman, Aoun expressed his sincere determination to liberate Lebanon after years of suffering, destruction, displacement and economic decline caused by conflicts fought on behalf of others.
Sleiman also said Aoun showed 'enthusiasm and courage' in pursuing his proposals after other solutions had failed to save the country and preserve the dignity of the state, its people and the Lebanese Army, without falling under the influence of regional axes or becoming subordinate to any foreign state.
He concluded by calling on every sincere and honorable citizen to wish Aoun success and publicly support his efforts and the decisions of the Lebanese state.
