Issa: $500,000 Allocated to Preserve Chehime's Heritage
U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa highlighted the country’s rich cultural heritage, noting that the significance of some of its historical treasures is not always fully appreciated.
Speaking at a ceremony marking the completion of restoration work at Mseilha Fort, Issa said the fort had stood strong over the years, much like Lebanon itself, and praised the ongoing efforts to restore it, which began in 2022.
He stressed that Lebanon’s heritage is an essential part of its national identity and that preserving it means safeguarding Lebanese culture. Issa also announced a $500,000 contribution to Chehime to help preserve its important heritage.
Noting that he is of Lebanese descent, Issa said he was proud to represent the United States in the country of his roots, describing this as a reflection of the close ties between the two nations. He also encouraged people to visit Lebanon’s heritage sites.
For his part, Culture Minister Ghassan Salameh described the project as a model initiative, saying it set an example of cooperation at every level.
“We are working here to create a model of peaceful and fruitful cooperation,” he said.
