President Joseph Aoun received a phone call this evening from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which they discussed the general situation in Lebanon and the region in light of recent developments.
They discussed the situation in southern Lebanon amid continued Israeli attacks on southern villages and towns. President Aoun asked Rubio to pressure Israel to halt these attacks, comply with the provisions of the framework agreement, stop land-clearing operations, allow farmers to access their fields, and refrain from targeting them.
During the call, President Aoun affirmed to Secretary Rubio that the army and security forces are fully carrying out their duties in implementing decisions related to preventing armed displays, seizing weapons and ammunition, and combating smuggling. He noted that the measures taken over the past few days fall within this framework. He also stressed that the judicial authorities are following up on all cases referred to them, that there will be no leniency toward those responsible, and that the law will be enforced without favoritism.
