Oman Delivers 20 New Buses to Lebanon
Lebanon’s Railway and Public Transport Authority received 20 new buses donated by the Sultanate of Oman during a ceremony at Mar Mikhael train station in Beirut, attended by Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny and Omani Ambassador Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Said Al-Saidi.
Authority Director General Ziad Chaya thanked Oman for the swift delivery, saying the buses would directly support efforts to strengthen public transport capacity.
Al-Saidi said the initiative reflected Oman’s solidarity with Lebanon and stressed the importance of encouraging greater use of public transportation.
Rasamny said expanding public transport had become a priority, particularly amid economic pressures on citizens. He said the current network operates on 11 routes, with five additional routes under development, bringing the total to 16, while further lines are being studied.
He added that the authority could ultimately operate around 500 buses if sufficient vehicles and resources became available, and said cooperation with the private sector had produced encouraging results.
Rasamny also stressed the need to use technology, review fares carefully and develop practical solutions that make commuting more affordable and efficient.
