Towards more sustainable solid waste management in Lebanon
The Ministry of Environment, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) under Tadwir Project, funded by the European Union, launched its first training sessions for municipalities, bringing together more than 120 municipal representatives from Mount Lebanon and Bekaa.
The sessions focused on the practical implementation of the Cost Recovery Law for Solid Waste Management, clarifying roles and responsibilities, addressing challenges on the ground, and strengthening municipal capacities to deliver more efficient and sustainable waste management services.
They also provided a platform for municipalities to exchange experiences and discuss practical solutions, with particular emphasis on source separation, reuse and recycling as key elements of integrated waste management and the transition towards a circular economy.
These initial sessions are part of a broader training programme that will reach municipalities across Lebanon, supporting municipalities in different regions as they move towards the practical implementation of the new framework.
