The Ministry of Culture – Directorate General of Antiquities announced that it has received pieces of lead sarcophagi dating back to the Roman period through the Lebanese Consulate in New York, represented by Consul General Talal Daher.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry, These pieces were illegally smuggled from the city of Tyre and were recovered following efforts by the Directorate General of Antiquities, which is entrusted with protecting cultural property, in cooperation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The pieces are expected to be formally handed over to the Ministry of Culture – Directorate General of Antiquities at a later date.
