Contract teachers demand fee exemptions for southern students
Coordinator of the Contract Teachers’ Movement Hamza Mansour called on the Education Minister and members of Parliament’s Education Committee to intervene immediately and responsibly to exempt students in southern Lebanon from registration fees for secondary and vocational education, amid the difficult economic and living conditions facing families in the south and the additional burdens caused by the war, displacement and destruction of homes and property.
He also called for the children of contract teachers to be exempted from registration fees this year across Lebanon, for the same reasons.
Mansour said that exempting students in southern Lebanon from registration fees at this stage is “not a favor or a privilege, but an educational and humanitarian duty” toward students whose families have paid a heavy price as a result of the war and lost much of their stability and ability to maintain a decent standard of living.
