FPM MP Salim Aoun said after the bloc withdrew from the legislative session because the Defense Minister did not enter Parliament to deliver the army’s position: “The Defense Minister is being prevented from expressing the Lebanese Army’s and his ministry’s views, and our decision to withdraw today is to avoid being complicit in such a violation by remaining present.”
He asked: “What is wrong with hearing an opinion? What kind of precedent is this? The Defense Minister does not speak on behalf of the government, but on behalf of the army. What is preventing us from hearing an opinion that is not binding on us, anyone else or the government?”
He added: “We acknowledge that the government is represented by its prime minister, but this bill did not come from the government, which means this is not the government’s position.”
