Nassereddine stresses government unity, outlines health sector priorities
Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine stressed that differences of opinion within the government should not develop into disputes that obstruct its work, saying the Cabinet must operate as one team and prioritize decisions serving Lebanese citizens.
Speaking on Télé Liban’s Hiwarat Al-Saraya program, Nassereddine said the parliamentary exchange between Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and Defense Minister Michel Menassa should be addressed within government institutions, while underscoring ministerial solidarity.
On health preparedness, he said the ministry had strengthened medical stocks and hospital readiness ahead of the latest war, coordinating with public and private hospitals, professional syndicates and international organizations. A centralized system for distributing casualties helped hospitals handle more than 1,200 wounded people during one wave of attacks, he added.
Nassereddine also announced that Beirut Port blast survivors still requiring surgery would receive necessary coverage at government hospitals, regardless of insurance status.
Addressing healthcare for non-Lebanese residents, he said Lebanon could not shoulder additional hospitalization costs and urged the international community, including UN agencies, to assume its responsibilities.
He also highlighted plans to strengthen primary healthcare, emergency medicine training and partnerships between universities and public hospitals, while improving conditions to retain Lebanese doctors and nurses.
