Parliament Passes General Amnesty Law
The Parliament approved the General Amnesty Law as it had been passed by the joint committees, with amendments regarding private rights, early release, and trial outside prison; the requirement for early release was reduced from 14 to 12 years of imprisonment.
The word “final” was also removed from the article, so that parole is now limited to those who have no conviction against them, rather than those with no final conviction.
The law was passed in the absence of MPs from the Free Patriotic Movement and Hezbollah.
