Labor Minister Mohammad Haidar met with European Union Ambassador to Lebanon Sandra De Waele to discuss challenges facing Lebanon’s labor market and ways to strengthen cooperation on programs supporting workers, businesses, vocational training and employment.
Haidar also held talks with International Organization for Migration (IOM) Lebanon Chief of Mission Matthew Luciano on cooperation in migration management, and separately met Hassan Yassin, secretary-general of the Association of Lebanese Industrialists.
In a separate meeting, the minister received representatives of transport and freight unions, led by Bassam Tleis, to discuss issues affecting the road freight sector, particularly the status of Lebanese and foreign truck drivers.
Following the meeting, Tleis said the parties agreed to hold a follow-up session to develop a unified proposal for the labor minister aimed at balancing protection of the national economy with workers’ rights, while ensuring compliance with Lebanese regulations and the requirements of Arab countries importing Lebanese goods.
