Japan contributes to support conflict-affected people in Lebanon
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) today welcomed a contribution of USD 1 million from the Government of Japan to provide life-saving in-kind food assistance to 59,000 vulnerable people affected by the recent escalation of conflict.
Across Lebanon, many families remain displaced while others continue to recover from economic hardship and the lingering effects of insecurity. Humanitarian assistance remains essential to help families meet their basic food needs and stabilize their lives during this period of uncertainty.
When people are forced to flee or lose their source of income, the effects of conflict extend far beyond the immediate crisis. Timely food assistance helps families regain a degree of stability at a time when uncertainty remains high. We are grateful to the people and the Government of Japan for their continued support in enabling WFP to assist the most vulnerable, said Anne Valand, WFP Lebanon Deputy Country Director.
Japan has been a longstanding partner of WFP in Lebanon, supporting a range of activities over the years to assist vulnerable communities and strengthen national capacities. This latest contribution underscores Japan's continued commitment to ensuring that people affected by crises receive timely and effective assistance.

Through our partnership with WFP, we are helping to strengthen food security and protect human security by ensuring that vulnerable families affected by the recent escalation of conflict receive the assistance they urgently need. So far in 2026, Japan has contributed a total of USD 3 million to WFP's operations in Lebanon. These complementary contributions enable WFP to respond to evolving humanitarian needs through different forms of assistance, helping reach people with support that best meets their needs.
