Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri praised statements issued by municipal councils and religious figures in border villages, particularly Christian communities in the districts of Marjayoun District and Bint Jbeil District.
He referred in particular to the municipality of Rmeish, which rejected and denied what he described as false claims made by the Israeli prime minister regarding alleged desires by residents of these villages to join Israel. Berri stressed that the positions of these communities and their steadfastness on their land reflect an authentic national belonging that they will not compromise under any circumstances.
He also warned against falling into what he called Israeli political misinformation, which he said is intended to sow discord among border communities, whose shared concern remains ending the war, liberating the land, returning to it, and rebuilding what has been destroyed.
On another note, Berri urged the Lebanese state and Arab and international actors to act to stop what he described as systematic destruction and the ongoing demolition of villages in the Bint Jbeil area and other districts, warning that large parts of southern Lebanon are being rendered uninhabitable.
