British Ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Cowell expressed sadness following the death of a UNIFIL peacekeeper and the injury of two others in an attack in south Lebanon.
In a statement posted on X, Ambassador Cowell said he was appalled and saddened to learn of the incident, which resulted in the death of a peacekeeper and injuries to two others. He stressed that the United Kingdom strongly condemns all attacks against UNIFIL personnel, underscoring the importance of ensuring their safety and their ability to carry out their mandate.
Earlier, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) announced that one of its peacekeepers had succumbed to critical injuries sustained when mortar shells struck his position near Marjayoun in southeastern Lebanon. UNIFIL also confirmed that two other peacekeepers were injured in the same incident and are receiving medical treatment at a facility within the mission’s base.
