Prime Minister Nawaf Salam chaired a Cabinet session during which ministers reviewed ongoing negotiations aimed at securing an Israeli withdrawal, restoring stability in southern Lebanon and reinforcing state authority.
Salam described negotiations as the fastest and least costly path for Lebanon, stressing that the government remains committed to achieving a full Israeli withdrawal, the safe return of displaced residents and the implementation of state obligations under UN Resolution 1701 and the Taif Agreement, including the exclusivity of arms under state authority.
During the session, Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine rejected Israeli allegations concerning Tebnine Governmental Hospital, affirming that it is a civilian public facility operating under Lebanese state authority.
Cabinet also approved several administrative measures, including assigning Cabinet Secretary-General Mahmoud Makieh to oversee the Cannabis Regulatory Authority on an interim basis, cancelling the 2026 Brevet (intermediate certificate) official examinations, and increasing educational grants for students in both public and private schools.
