President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, received a cable from His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, in which the Pontiff renewed his sincere love for Lebanon and its people from all different sects, affirming his continued concern for Lebanon and his prayers for its people.
He said: “Let us continue to harness all our energies in the service of peace and the common good,” invoking divine blessings upon Lebanon and its people.
The words of the Holy Father came in a reply message sent to the President of the Republic, in response to the letter President Aoun had previously sent to him on the occasion of the first anniversary of his pontificate, after he was elected by the Holy Synod as successor to Pope Francis.
The President of the Republic had emphasized in his letter that “Lebanon is today going through extremely dangerous exceptional circumstances. The tensions and conflicts affecting our immediate surroundings, and the resulting profound repercussions on our internal stability, expose our nation to unprecedented challenges. In light of these circumstances, the consistent position of the Holy See, its constant closeness, and its repeated interventions in favor of the Lebanese people bear witness to a solidarity that honors our shared history. Your Holiness’s appeals to stop violence, respect human rights, and protect the most vulnerable groups find deep resonance and gratitude in Lebanon.”
